Snap (NYSE: SNAP) launched Snapchat Plans on 10th September 2026, a set of in-app tools that lets users create private events, invite up to 200 friends, and collect RSVPs inside their existing chats.

The Big Picture

  • Snapchat Plans lets users build an event with a title, date, time, and a guest list of up to 200 friends.
  • Invited friends get the invite inside a one-on-one chat and can answer Going, Maybe, or Can’t Go.
  • Snap says every plan is private and invite-only, although each guest can see the full guest list.
  • A new My Plans section on user profiles collects current, upcoming, and past events in one place.
  • Partiful and Apple Invites already compete for users who want something sturdier than a group chat thread.

Snapchat moves the invitation into the chat

Snap built Plans around a familiar problem: weekend plans that start in messages and then get lost further up the thread. The company put it bluntly in its announcement post: “No more missed get-togethers because of buried messages, lost details, or forgetting to create an invitation.”

Creating a plan takes a title, a date and time, and a pick of friends. Hosts can add Bitmoji cover art that updates automatically as the plan comes together, and each invitation lands in a separate one-on-one chat, so guests reply without leaving the conversation they were already having.

JUST IN: Snapchat launches “Plans,” allowing users to organize gatherings with up to 200 friends directly in the app.

What hosts and guests control?

Hosts can see who’s coming, invite more friends, and edit the details after sending. Guests can switch their RSVP whenever they like, and Snapchat sends a reminder one hour before the start time.

Profiles pick up the change too. Opening a friend’s profile shows the events you share with that person. That keeps plans visible inside an app whose reach is already large, as Snapchat’s daily user and revenue numbers show.

Snap says users will “soon” be able to create events directly inside a chat. The announcement gives no date for that step.

Partiful and Apple already hold this ground

Partiful, which Google Play named its best app of 2024, is a popular invitation app that young users turn to for organizing get-togethers. Apple entered the category with Apple Invites, which lets iCloud+ subscribers create invitations and share them by link.

Snapchat’s edge is placement. Apple Invites asks the guest to open a link; Snapchat drops the invite into a thread the guest already uses with that friend.

SQ Magazine’s Takeaway

Plans gives Snap a reason for friends to keep using the app once the chat turns into an actual meetup. Younger users already spend long stretches on social apps, as Gen Z social media statistics show, and Plans tries to convert some of that time into attendance.

The weak spot is scale, because a “private” plan near the invite cap still shows the full guest list to everyone invited, so hosts inviting large friend groups should decide who belongs on the same list before hitting send.

What’s next is the in-chat creation tool that Snap has promised but not dated. The launch post also doesn’t list the countries where Plans is available, so users who don’t see the My Plans section yet should check back after their next app update rather than assume the feature is missing for good.
