SQ Magazine publishes cybersecurity and technology news at sqmagazine.co.uk. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
This policy applies to the SQ Magazine website and to the people who read it, subscribe to our newsletter, comment on articles, or contact us. SQ Magazine operates this website, and our GDPR Policy names the data controller and sets out the legal detail behind the practices summarized here.

Information We Collect
We collect a limited amount of information, and most of it never identifies you by name.
- Information you give us: your email address when you subscribe to the newsletter, your name and email address when you comment on an article, and the name, email address, and message you send through our contact form.
- Information we collect automatically: your IP address, browser type, the pages you view, and the time you spend on the site, recorded in server logs and in analytics.
- Cookies and similar technologies: small files that support analytics and advertising, described in full in our Cookie Policy.
Our GDPR Policy lists the lawful basis and the retention period for each category.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information above for a small set of clearly defined purposes.
- Publishing and improving the site, including understanding which articles readers find useful.
- Responding to messages you send through the contact form.
- Sending the newsletter to readers who ask for it, and nothing else.
- Measuring anonymized, aggregate traffic through analytics.
- Detecting spam and protecting the site and its readers.
We do not use your information for automated decisions that produce legal effects.
Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it so that other companies can market to you.
We share limited data with two service providers who help us run the site: Mediavine, which delivers advertising, and Google, which provides analytics. Each one processes data under its own privacy policy and according to the consent you give on the banner. If you opt in to browser push notifications, we also share the data needed to deliver them with OneSignal, as described in the Push Notifications section below.

Advertising Partners
Mediavine is our advertising partner. Mediavine operates a Google-certified consent management platform built on the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF v2.2) and the Global Privacy Platform (GPP).
The Mediavine consent banner gates advertising for visitors in the EEA, the UK, and California. With your consent, advertising vendors may set cookies and process device and usage data to deliver and measure ads. You can review the vendors and change your choices through the banner at any time. Mediavine describes how it and its vendors handle data in its own privacy policy.
Analytics and Consent
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site, and we run it through Google Consent Mode v2.
Analytics are off by default in the EEA, the UK, Switzerland, and California. No analytics cookies are set in those regions until you accept them on the consent banner. Elsewhere analytics are enabled by default, and you can turn them off through the same banner.
Google Analytics 4 anonymizes IP addresses by default, and we do not use Google Signals or advertising features within analytics. Our Cookie Policy lists the analytics cookies and how long they last.
Push Notifications
SQ Magazine offers optional browser push notifications through OneSignal, which alert you to new articles and updates. We gate this feature by consent in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland, and in every region it begins only after you allow it on your browser’s own permission prompt. OneSignal processes the data needed to deliver these notifications under its own privacy policy, and you can stop the notifications at any time by unsubscribing.
Your Privacy Rights
Readers in the UK and the EEA have rights over their personal data: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, and withdrawal of consent.

California Privacy Rights
California residents have rights under the CCPA and CPRA: to know what personal information we collect, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information.
We do not sell your personal information for money. You can exercise the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” choice through the consent banner. We do not discriminate against you for using any of these rights.
Global Privacy Control (GPC)
We recognize the Global Privacy Control (GPC) as a valid opt-out signal. We treat a GPC signal from your browser or extension as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information wherever applicable law requires.
Consent and How We Manage It
The Mediavine consent banner records your choices and lets you change or withdraw them whenever you want. Advertising and analytics that depend on consent load only after you accept them on the banner in the regions listed above. You can reopen the banner at any time to update your preferences.
Data Minimization
We collect only the data we need for the purposes described in this policy, and we keep it only as long as those purposes require or the law demands. Our GDPR Policy sets out the retention period for each type of data.
Security
We take reasonable measures to help protect the information we hold, and we limit access to the people who need it to run the site. No method of transmitting or storing data is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children’s Privacy
SQ Magazine does not target children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will delete it.
Third-Party Links and Embeds
Our articles link to other websites and include embedded content. We embed YouTube videos, using the privacy-preserving youtube-nocookie version where it is available, and posts from X (formerly Twitter). We do not embed content from Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn.
These third parties set their own cookies and follow their own privacy policies. We do not control those websites and are not responsible for their practices, so read their policies before you share any information with them.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our practices or the law change. We will post the revised version on this page and update the date at the top. We encourage you to review this page from time to time.
