Google has officially rolled out Gemini powered AI browsing inside Chrome for users in India, bringing a built in assistant that can summarize content, compare tabs, and connect with popular Google apps directly from the browser.

Quick Summary – TLDR:

  • Google has launched Gemini in Chrome in India, expanding the feature beyond the United States.
  • The AI assistant works inside the browser and can summarize pages, compare tabs, and answer questions.
  • Support for more than 50 languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Bengali, is part of the rollout.
  • Gemini also integrates with Gmail, Maps, Calendar, and YouTube to help users complete tasks without leaving the browser.

What Happened?

Google announced that Gemini in Chrome is expanding to India, Canada, and New Zealand, bringing its AI powered browsing assistant to millions of new users. The feature allows people to interact with Gemini directly inside the Chrome browser through a chat panel.

Users can ask questions about content on their screen, summarize articles, compare information across multiple tabs, and perform tasks like drafting emails or scheduling events.

We’re excited to bring Gemini in Chrome to more people in more languages! Gemini in Chrome will be available in 50 additional languages, and it starts rolling out in India, Canada and New Zealand.

Gemini Arrives Inside Chrome for Indian Users

Google is gradually introducing Gemini as a built in browsing assistant inside Chrome, allowing users to access AI powered help without switching tabs or opening separate apps.

Users will see an Ask Gemini icon in the browser interface, which opens a side panel where the AI assistant can answer questions or help with tasks related to the current webpage.

Some of the key capabilities include:

  • Summarizing long articles and web pages.
  • Creating quick quizzes to help understand a topic.
  • Answering questions about the content currently on screen.
  • Retrieving pages from Chrome browsing history.

The assistant can also remember previously visited pages, helping users quickly return to information they saved for later.

AI That Works Across Multiple Tabs

One of the most useful additions is Gemini’s ability to work across several open browser tabs.

This means users can ask Gemini to analyze information from multiple pages and present the results in a single view. For example, people comparing products while shopping online can ask Gemini to create a table with key differences across websites.

The feature is also designed for everyday productivity. Users can combine information from multiple sources when planning activities, researching topics, or preparing for meetings.

Integration With Gmail Maps Calendar and YouTube

Gemini in Chrome connects with several popular Google services, allowing users to complete tasks without leaving their current webpage.

These integrations include:

  • Gmail for composing and sending emails directly from the browser panel.
  • Google Calendar for scheduling meetings or events.
  • Google Maps for checking location details.
  • YouTube for summarizing videos and highlighting key points.

For example, a user can ask Gemini to write an email while browsing a webpage. Once the message is ready, the assistant provides an option to review and send it instantly.

Support for Indian Languages

The rollout also expands language support significantly. Google says Gemini in Chrome now works with more than 50 additional languages, including several widely used languages in India.

These include:

  • Hindi
  • Bengali
  • Gujarati
  • Kannada
  • Malayalam
  • Marathi
  • Tamil
  • Telugu

This expansion aims to make the AI assistant accessible to a broader audience, especially in regions where multilingual browsing is common.

Image Editing With Nano Banana 2

Another interesting capability is the integration of Nano Banana 2, a generative AI tool that allows users to modify images directly in the browser.

Instead of opening a separate app or uploading files, users can type instructions in the Gemini panel to transform images. For instance, someone shopping for furniture can upload a photo of their room and visualize how new items might look in that space.

Security and Control Built Into Chrome

Google says security has been a core focus while building Gemini into Chrome.

The company has trained its AI models to recognize potential threats such as prompt injection attacks. The system also requires confirmation before performing sensitive actions like sending emails or adding calendar events.

Chrome’s automatic update system will continue to deliver security improvements as the feature expands to more users.

SQ Magazine’s Takeaway

I think this launch shows how serious Google is about turning Chrome into an AI powered workspace rather than just a browser. Gemini inside Chrome could change how people research, shop, and manage daily tasks online. The biggest advantage for Google is its massive Chrome user base. If Gemini becomes a natural part of browsing, competitors building standalone AI browsers may find it difficult to catch up.
