Amazon released Echo Time on 28th October, 2026, a $199.99 Alexa+ alarm clock that can choose when to wake you. Its optional smart alarm uses ultrasound to detect breathing and rings when you drift into lighter sleep.
The Essentials
- Echo Time comes in Graphite, Glacier White or Coral Pink, and a matching adjustable stand costs $39.99.
- The 3.2-inch circular touchscreen offers hundreds of clock faces, including characters from Harry Potter and Batman.
- Sleep sensing is opt-in, and owners can switch it off in the Alexa app or with the mute button.
- Amazon Kids Echo Time starts at $209.99 and includes a year of Amazon Kids+.
Your alarm time becomes a window
Most alarm clocks keep one promise: they ring at the minute you choose. Echo Time can bend it on purpose. With smart alarms on, Alexa picks what Amazon calls the best moment. That can be anywhere within 10 to 60 minutes of your set alarm.
The timing comes from Omnisense, which Amazon describes as its sensor fusion technology. Room temperature sensors and presence detection build a picture of your sleep routine, while ultrasound picks up breathing and proximity from the nightstand. Nothing goes on your wrist, and there is no camera in the device at all.

The wake-up itself starts quietly. Each alarm tone builds in energy with every snooze, up to four times, and the round display brightens gradually beforehand to mimic a sunrise. After dark, night mode dims the screen to the time or your next alarm and reduces blue light. If you already follow research on how social media affects sleep, that setting may matter more to you than the clock faces.
The National Sleep Foundation awarded Echo Time its SleepMark, which goes to sleep products that meet evidence-based sleep health standards. The announcement includes no accuracy figures for the lighter-sleep detection. Nobody outside the company can yet say how often it gets the moment right.
Alexa+ handles the arithmetic people usually do half-asleep. Tell it you need to be ready by 8 a.m. and can’t forget lunch, and it sets the alarm plus a reminder, Amazon said. Certain features require Alexa+, which Amazon includes with a Prime membership. Changing the look is a spoken request too: “Alexa, change to a seasonal clock face.“
A second version targets a different room. Amazon Kids Echo Time comes in Galactic Grape or Cosmic Lime. Children can set their own alarms, check the weather before school and swap clock faces. Bedtime runs through Sleep Studio, which serves wind-down content from Calm, Headspace and Moshi.
Two people end up with a say over that bedtime. Parents can set sleep schedules in the Amazon Parent Dashboard so wind-down begins automatically. Older kids can also start it on their own by saying, “Alexa, play Sleep Studio.“
The mute button shuts off Alexa and sleep sensing together
Amazon kept the camera out of Echo Time in the same launch that put one on the $249.99 Echo Studio with Home Camera. The bedside clock relies on sound and temperature instead. It still shows clear visual indicators when Alexa is listening, and a dedicated privacy button turns the microphones off completely.
The announcement leaves gaps that matter for anyone sleeping next to the device. It does not say whether breathing data is processed on the clock or in Amazon’s cloud, or how long sleep routine data is kept. It also doesn’t say whether the sensors can separate two people sharing a bed.
You can keep voice commands and still opt out of sensing. Leave the feature off at setup, or turn it off later in the device settings of the Alexa app.
Why It Matters?
Competition arrives quickly. Apple’s $299 HomeView, a 7-inch display with Siri AI, FaceTime and Apple Home controls, reaches stores on November 13.
The mute button is the blunter option, and Amazon ties it to both functions. Press it before bed and the microphones go dark and sleep sensing stops with them. Alexa can no longer hear you, and the smart alarm has nothing left to read.
