REVIEW: Arivmia – Awake Another Fear

Posted on Friday, 9 December by

Recently standing out in the November’s SQ Soundcloud Showcase were Arivmia, a versatile band from Hastings, who recorded their EP ‘Awake Another Fear’ at The Lodge in Northampton.

Polished and talented, Arivmia are a band that bring together everything that once made rock music great with an outstanding frontman and an inhumanely good pack of musicians.

At first glance, thanks to their name, you might think Arivmia to be just another mediocre metal band, but thanks to tracks like the opener on this EP you’ll know that to be wrong; with strong and infectious vocals that move well across many levels and rock-out music track one, ‘Stole My Fire’, is a great start.

Opening with a long bassline and building drumbeat ‘Fear Of The Book’ moves into a hair metal sounding rock riff with vocals similar to that of Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson on top. Combining modern alternative sounds with influence from classic rock of the last few decades this track sounds very polished. With a solid bassline running throughout complimented by the addition of occasional special effects, drawn out solos, and a regular drumbeat ‘Fear Of The Book’ makes for astounding listening and almost certainly shows itself off as the best track on this EP.

Featuring vocals that seem to cross genres, ‘Imperfect World’ merges together elements of classic rock, metal, and modern rock sounds to create a perfect blend. Filled with blistering riffs and one particularly exceptional solo, the track feels professional and listening to it anyone will know that if Guitar Hero were still around this would be on it one day.

Beginning with the sound of a declining heart monitor a low bassline and rising drum roll slam into a simply incredible guitar riff that make this song one that never gets old; with mature vocals title track ‘Awake Another Fear’ lifts this EP to celestial heights as it bring it to a close.

Arivmia will, without a doubt, be the next band to put this area on the map but unlike Keane or Toploader, they’ll keep us there. Superb.
