Ripple has invested in AI infrastructure startup t54 Labs to build a trust layer for autonomous agents executing financial transactions, strengthening the role of the XRP Ledger in the emerging agentic economy.
Quick Summary – TLDR:
- Ripple joined a $5 million seed round for t54 Labs alongside Franklin Templeton and others.
- t54 is building identity and risk infrastructure for AI agents handling payments.
- The platform runs on XRP Ledger, Solana, and Base.
- The move positions XRP Ledger for machine to machine financial activity.
What Happened?
San Francisco based t54 Labs raised $5 million in seed funding with strategic participation from Ripple. The startup is focused on creating identity and risk verification systems for AI agents that are beginning to execute real financial transactions.
The round was led by Anagram, PL Capital, and Franklin Templeton, with Ripple joining alongside Virtuals Ventures, Blockchain Coinvestors, and ABCDE.

Ripple Enters the Agentic Payments Race
Ripple’s investment signals a deeper push into what many are calling the agentic economy, where AI agents act as independent economic participants. These systems are moving beyond recommendations and into execution, managing payments, treasury flows, and capital allocation.
Ripple President Monica Long wrote on X, “as autonomous agents begin managing and transacting with real capital, trust infrastructure becomes a foundational piece of the equation.” She added that Ripple was “proud to be at the forefront of AI innovation,” highlighting t54 as a team “building the trust layer for the agentic economy.“
Markus Infanger, SVP at RippleX, said:
For Ripple, this is more than a venture investment. It is a strategic bet that XRP Ledger infrastructure could play a role in future machine driven payment flows.
Building Identity and Risk Controls for AI Agents
t54 describes itself as a trust layer for the agentic economy. Founder Chandler Fang explained the company’s mission in a press release:
The platform is built around four core pillars:
- Identity and verification, including developer checks and human agent binding.
- Risk and fraud monitoring powered by real time behavioral analysis.
- Agent native credit underwriting.
- An integrated operating layer combining identity, risk, and settlement.
The company employs 12 people and plans to hire three more, including two engineers. Founder Chandler Fang confirmed this was the company’s first external capital raise and said no investor took a board or advisory seat.
Blockchain Integration Across XRPL and Beyond
While t54 positions itself as rail agnostic, blockchain plays a central role in its system. The company uses blockchain as a settlement and accountability layer for programmable transactions.
Its infrastructure currently runs on XRP Ledger, Solana, and Base. It also developed an open source secure layer for Coinbase’s x402 agent payment protocol and offers an XRPL x402 facilitator that allows AI agents to pay for services using XRP and RLUSD.
Last month, t54 announced a collaboration with Evernorth, a Ripple backed digital asset treasury firm targeting more than $1 billion in institutional XRP holdings.
Why the Market Opportunity Matters?
t54 points to growing consumer openness to AI driven transactions. A YouGov study found that 42 percent of US consumers would allow AI agents to make purchases on their behalf if it secured the lowest price.
At the same time, research from Keyfactor shows that 86 percent of cybersecurity professionals believe autonomous systems should have unique digital identities.
Tony Pecore, Franklin Templeton SVP and director of digital asset management, said:
SQ Magazine Takeaway
I see this as a forward looking move by Ripple. The real battle in AI finance will not just be about speed or automation. It will be about trust, accountability, and identity. If AI agents start moving real money, institutions will demand strong controls. By backing t54 early, Ripple is positioning the XRP Ledger as part of that next generation financial infrastructure.
If autonomous systems truly become economic actors, then payment rails that support them could see significant adoption. This investment feels like Ripple planting its flag early in that future.
