At SQ Magazine, our reputation is built on data, precision, and trust. In a fast-moving digital world, accuracy is our currency. When we get it wrong, we don’t just fix it; we acknowledge it and take responsibility.
This policy outlines our standard for maintaining the integrity of our reporting on technology, AI, and finance.
Our Standard of Accuracy
We strive for a 100% accuracy rate in our statistics, forecasts, and news. However, transparency is just as important as precision. If an error occurs, our priority is to correct the record promptly and visibly. We believe that acknowledging mistakes builds more trust than hiding them.
How Do We Classify Changes?
Not all updates are the same. We use specific tags to help you understand what changed and why:
- Correction: Used for factual errors (e.g., incorrect statistic, wrong name, or mistaken date). We fix the text and add a note explaining the error.
- Clarification: Used when the facts were technically correct, but the phrasing was confusing or open to misinterpretation. We rewrite for clarity.
- Update: Used when new information becomes available after publication (e.g., a company releases a follow-up statement). This is not an error, but an evolution of the story.
- Editor’s Note: A meaningful explanation is attached to stories that have undergone significant revision or require extra context on our sourcing.
- Retraction: Reserved for the rare instance where a story is fundamentally flawed or unsubstantiated. In these cases, the article is removed or heavily redacted, with a full public explanation remaining available.
Where Corrections Appear
We place correction notes based on the severity of the error to ensure they are seen, but do not disrupt the reading experience:
- Critical Errors: (Affecting the headline or core argument)
- Placement: Top of the article.
- Format: Clearly labeled note with a timestamp.
- Minor Factual Errors: (e.g., a wrong date deep in the text)
- Placement: Bottom of the article.
- Format: A specific “Correction” footer detailing the change.
- Typographical Errors: (Spelling, grammar, dead links)
- Action: Fixed silently without a note, unless the error altered the meaning or context of the sentence.
The Correction Workflow
We follow a strict protocol to ensure every fix is verified:
- Report: An error is flagged by a reader, staff member, or subject matter expert.
- Verify: Our editorial team reviews primary sources (filings, recordings, or raw data) to confirm the discrepancy.
- Fix: Once verified, the content is updated in the CMS.
- Log: A correction note is drafted and approved by a Senior Editor.
- Publish: The note goes live on the page.
- Amplify: If the error was shared on social media or our newsletter, we issue a correction on those platforms to close the loop.
Third-Party & Press Releases
SQ Magazine often aggregates data and publishes press releases from partners in the tech and crypto space.
- Press Releases: These are published “as-is” from the issuing source and clearly labeled as such. We do not independently verify or edit these for factual accuracy, and any corrections must come directly from the issuing company.
- Guest Contributors: We hold guest authors to high standards. If a third-party contributor makes a factual error, we will work with them to issue a correction clearly labeled as originating from the author.
