# Google Cloud Brings OpenAI Models to Enterprise Customers

Google Cloud opened a private preview of OpenAI models on October 21, 2026. GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol, and GPT-6 Luna are rolling out to select enterprise customers.

## Key Facts

- OpenAI usage appears on a single Google Cloud invoice and draws down existing cloud commitments, according to Google.
- Google Cloud is the only hyperscale cloud provider offering access to all three leading closed source LLMs, per Google.
- The same platform lists more than 200 first-party, third-party, and open models, according to Google.
- Zero Data Retention options and Confidential Compute are both listed as coming soon. Neither is live yet.

## Google Cloud lists three OpenAI models in Model Garden

According to Google Cloud’s blog post, the three OpenAI models split by capability and cost. **GPT-6 Astra** is designed for demanding work across coding, computer use, professional tasks, and scientific research. **GPT-6.1** Sol offers near-Astra intelligence at lower cost. GPT-6 Luna is a fast, cost-efficient model for everyday work at scale.

Customers can build with these models through its APIs and connect **local Codex CLI** and Desktop workflows directly to the Gemini platform for inference. Developers can keep OpenAI’s coding tools while Google’s platform handles inference.

Google’s stated rationale is matching each workload to the right model rather than relying on a single model for every task. [OpenAI](https://sqmagazine.co.uk/openai-statistics/) framed the deal as a joint effort. Its announcement said OpenAI and Google Cloud are partnering to bring frontier models into Model Garden, with **Codex agentic workflows** included. It added that the integration will give customers native access to these models to power complex agentic workflows at scale.

## A single invoice is the real enterprise lever

Procurement runs through one channel, because OpenAI models are transacted directly through Google Cloud Marketplace. Usage also counts toward **Flexible Savings Plans** (FSP) across model providers, Google says.

OpenAI’s announcement confirms the commitment mechanic. It said enterprises with Google Cloud spend commitments will be able to draw down their GCP commitments for these purchases. Google adds that customers can swap models by performance, latency, and cost without architectural lock-in or separate vendor contracts.

For a company with committed [Google Cloud spend](https://sqmagazine.co.uk/google-cloud-platform-statistics/), testing an OpenAI model becomes a drawdown against approved budget, not a new vendor review. OpenAI itself describes the goal as a path from evaluation to broader adoption.

## Governance promises are Google’s, and two are not live

According to Google, customer prompts, context, and outputs remain entirely within a designated data perimeter and are never used to train foundation models. It also says OpenAI models run on dedicated Google Cloud infrastructure behind hardened, isolated gateways. These are vendor assurances, not audit findings.

Google adds that every agent and model interaction operates under an authenticated identity. It says that setup is giving IT administrators end-to-end visibility, VPC Service Controls protection, and unified audit logging. Box, a Google Cloud customer, backed the pairing. “**By using OpenAI models through Google Cloud, we will be able to give customers access to OpenAI’s frontier AI models alongside Google Cloud’s security and compliance capabilities**,” said Yashodha Bhavnani, VP of AI Products at Box.

Two protections are not live. Google’s post marks **Zero Data Retention (ZDR)** options and Confidential Compute as coming soon. OpenAI’s announcement targets the buyer who needs both.

It said For organizations in regulated industries, deploying AI requires control over who can access sensitive data and how it is used. A regulated buyer weighing the preview has two features it cannot yet verify.

## What’s Next?

Access starts with a form. Customers are asked to use a form to express interest. OpenAI models are coming soon to Gemini for business and Google Antigravity, and the post gives no date for either.

OpenAI’s announcement says OpenAI models will soon be available in Google Antigravity and the Gemini Agent, also undated. Until those dates land, the live offer is a private preview, not a general release.
