WATCH: Two guys base jump off the World Trade Center with GoPro cameras

Posted on Tuesday, 25 March by

Terrifying, life-endangering but undoubtedly an incredible feat – footage has recently emerged of two base jumpers descending New York city’s One World Trade Centre, the building constructed in memoriam of the two towers that stood previously before the 9/11 attacks.

A group of four men were involved in the stunt, which saw three of them parachute more than 1,700 feet off the skyscraper in a predawn jump, whilst a fourth kept lookout at the base of the tower.

Footage has potentially emerged as a result of the group being charged with burglary, reckless endangerment and jumping from a structure after two of the men were caught on surveillance cameras landing between the Goldman Sachs building and the Conrad Hotel wearing all black.

NYPD commissioner William Bratton told CNN:

These men violated the law and placed themselves, as well as others, in danger. These arrests should send a message to anyone thinking about misusing a landmark this way.

The men were eventually caught after police used search warrants to find footage of the stunt on a GoPro camera but critics including one of the group’s attorney, Timothy Parlatore, has accused the city of having too lax of security.
