WATCH: Kevin Spacey tells Jon Stewart how he really feels about politicians

Posted on Thursday, 20 February by

House of Cards star Kevin Spacey appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart to talk about all things American politics and according to the actor, his portrayal of Vice-President Frank Underwood is closer to home than we may think.

Season 2 of the political drama debuted last week on Netflix and sees Space reprising his role as the US politician who will do just about anything to get power.

Speaking on the politicians he encountered when researching the role, Kevin Spacey said:

It feels like you’re watching performance art a lot of the time. I don’t believe them, I don’t believe what they say, I don’t think they’re being absolutely sincere. I think it’s performance art and most of them are bad actors.”

Aside from discussing the shape and fate of American politics, Spacey also opens up on the challenges that House of Cards faced when being pitched to regular networks.

Spacey said: “With House of Cards we went out to all the networks. Netflix was the only network that said we believe in you, we believe in Fincher, we like the original British one…we don’t need you to do a pilot, how many do you want to do?”

Catch-up with House of Cards Season 1 in just three minutes.
