WATCH: Jeremy Paxman tells Jerry Springer his show “exploits poor people”

Posted on Thursday, 27 February by

After confrontations starring the likes of Matthew Perry and Russell Brand, BBC Newsnight host Jeremy Paxman has gone toe-to-toe with perhaps the only television host with an even greater thirst for on-screen conflict, Jerry Springer.

Springer – whose most famous episodes of The Jerry Springer Show include ‘I Married a Horse’ – was invited onto the late-night current affairs programme to discuss the content of his television shows, which led Paxman to accuse Jerry Springer of “exploiting poor people”.

In a more likeable manner than we’d probably expect, Springer retorted:

These people don’t became famous, they don’t even use their real names…they come on because for one week in their lives, someone is listening to them. They don’t have kids that listen to them, they don’t have parents that listen to them, they don’t have a job where they have an opinion.

Next week’s Newsnight guest: Jeremy Kyle?
