Brighton fixture list 2013/14

After a newsworthy start to the summer, it’s another busy day for Brighton & Hove Albion who have been handed their schedule for the upcoming league campaign. In a tough first test, the Seagulls face an away trip on the opening weekend of the 2013/14 nPower Championship season at Leeds United.

Albion and Leeds have a track record for providing goalfests at this level in recent years, with the last two meetings between the sides at the Amex providing ten goals. The most recent fixture between the clubs, at Elland Road in April, saw Albion confirm their spot in last season’s play-offs with a 2-1 victory courtesy of a late header from Leo Ulloa.

Albion will return to the Amex for the first time this coming league season on August 10th when they entertain Championship mainstays Derby County. Sandwiched between the season’s first league fixtures is a home tie against newly-promoted League Two side Newport County in the Capital One Cup, which takes place on August 7th.

As is standard, the schedule around the festive season has garned some attention but this time many Albion fans appear to be thanking the Football League for a relatively stress-free arrangement, which sees an away trip to Charlton Athletic on Boxing Day and a home fixture against AFC Bournemouth on New Year’s Day. With no Palace derby this year, that’s the closest to a grudge match Seagulls fans will see this season.

Albion’s final home match of the season will be against predicted relegation candidates Yeovil Town, before they close out the season with a trip to Nottingham Forest.
