Posted on Friday, 25 May by

Legendary hip-hop DJ and big dawg himself, Tim Westwood has been sacked from BBC Radio 1Xtra’s popular drivetime slot it has been announced today in order to make way for younger presenting talent.

Westwood, who has presented the 4-7pm show between Monday and Friday since September 2009, tweeted earlier on today:

“It’s official I’ve lost my afternoon voice due to schedule changes I will not be presentin 1Xtra Mon-Fri 4-7pm from Sept,”.

It’s understood, Tim will remain with the station and will be the face behind a new evening programme on Sunday nights, in addition to his regular Saturday night show.

“Tim has proved to be one of the most influential figures in UK hip-hop and I’m delighted that he will continue to bring his wealth of knowledge and unique style to Radio 1 and 1Xtra across the weekends,” Radio 1Xtra controller Ben Cooper said.

Charlie Sloth will replace Tim on the drivetime show from September.

Westwood. You’re fired!

Hopefully with all that free time Tim now has, we’ll see more of this…
