Madrid win – but suffer cup crushing

Posted on Thursday, 21 April by

As if enough hysteria hasn’t already been caused by the second round of matches between the El Clasico rivals, the exuberant winners Real Madrid took it upon themselves to raise the fanfare to new heights last night by dropping the Copa del Rey right underneath the double-decker bus they were travelling on in their triumphant return home to the capital.

Real secured the trophy courtesy of an extra time header from Cristiano Ronaldo in the final against Barcelona. However they didn’t manage to hold onto the cup for too long thanks to Sergio Ramos dropping the hard fought silverware in front of horrified onlookers.

“Ramos is a dozy duck. Yes indeed.” said Madrid coach Jose Mourinho after the jubilant yet catastrophic events.

Ramos joked about the incident on Twitter this morning, writing “There has been a misunderstanding about the cup”. And then returning to tell us; “Don’t worry, it is fine”.

Pep Guardiola, Barcelona’s coach, couldn’t hide his disdain this morning as TV images confirmed the cup incident. He pointed his index finger at his own temple and muttered:

“Real Madrid? Loco!”

The two teams meet again next week, the 27th of April, to play the first round of the Champions League semi-final at the Bernabéu.
